Story Circle
Proposal for Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial

While fighting a wild-land fire threatening Yarnell, Arizona, the Granite Mountain Hotshots from Prescott, Arizona, were faced with a decision whether to retire over a ridge to safety and a long trek to transportation to get back in the fight or to attempt to race to a protected ranch on the way to the rapidly moving fire line now threatening Yarnell.  During their dash through a box canyon, an undetectable shift in the wind due to a thunderstorm turned the firestorm directly at the 19 hotshots.  They were quickly overcome and all perished.

Objectives
 * To create a gathering space for a conversation with yourself, your beloved, your children, your friends, strangers or Deity about The Unknowable and the courage of the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
 * To create, at once, a vision of stirring heroism and the grief of catastrophe.
 * To tell the story of heroes who risked everything to get back in the fire fight—and lost.
 * To give all of us our place in the story with physical and emotional opportunities to interact with our lost heroes.
